Nash Caldera is a visual and performance artist (Willemstad, Curaçao, 1991). In her work she explores her identity as a Black Queer Woman. By exploring her identity she touches the subjects of the colonial past in the Caribbean, religion and spirituality, and how all of the relate to our life now.
By doing so, she also tries to create a safe space for herself and create experiences and
teach about herself in relation to her culture. Religion, especially Afro-Caribbean Religion like Santeria, is visually very present in her works, but also superstitions she grew up with are incorporated.
Recently she started exploring the languages she dominates and how they translate in her mind (the translation of different verbal languages within thoughts). She tries to translate her feelings into experiences so others can be emotionally triggered.
Performance art, photography, installation, collage and video are her media of choice.
In her performances she creates rituals that touch on different subjects, the subjectivity of her works make it easy for people to relate, because her performances makes people
