Kontemplashon di Multiplisidat den Kontekstonan

Contemplation of Multiplicity Within Contexts

Opreshon, Resistensia, Mi Lenga

Video art (3 Screens). 1:17minutes. 2021

Three videos with three different languages that play a big role within this body (body of a Curaçaoan woman), Papiamentu, Dutch and English. One represents comfort/freedom/way to express, second one oppression/the language that was forced on a body, and the last one the language of resistance in the context of The Netherlands.

While dragging a rake on the floor of a garden filled with tiles, sanitized/clean/without dirt, I contemplate the idea of embodiment of my ancestors working on the field in the sun. I’m also questioning the multiplicity within my identity. Video was filmed in Curaçao.

The black body may be adaptable to the cold, but the chain of our not accepted colonial past differences  is still a heavy weight we have to cope with every day.  Video was filmed in The Netherlands.

Cheese on my plate, the weight I have to carry everywhere because of colonialism.
Cheese on my plate, are we still waiting for them to feed us?
Cheese on my plate, will it forever be on my plate?
